Glamour as a path to Goddess!
By Perle Noire the Mahogany Queen of Burlesque
“I believe that everyone reading this is on a journey of self-discovery and abundant healing”- Perle Noire
When I was growing up, glamour was considered a dirty word. Women who wore makeup and took pride in their appearance were deemed to be worldly, high maintenance, and sadly, unattainable. And when I became a burlesque performer, I was told that glamour didn’t belong to me. Glamour was only for women who were blessed with beauty, suitors, and status. I have made it my mission to change the face of glamour and teach the world that glamour can heal your spirit from trauma, self-doubt and begin a journey of self-love.
I began this journey by researching glamorous women who inspired me, such as Diahann Carroll, Josephine Baker, and Dorothy Dandridge. Diahann Carroll played many inspiring roles, but the character who inspired me the most was Dominique Deveraux. I discovered that glamour is not only uplifting to see, but I found how glamour can be used as an armor of protection. When you walk into a room styled properly, everyone notices and respects your presence in the world. And most importantly, you respect yourself. You believe that you can walk with your head held high unapologetically, wait for a romantic partner who’s worthy of your time and space, and demand that you’re paid properly for your gifts professionally without culpability. Embracing glamour is a daily act of protest against limited and negative perspectives of feminine power, beauty, status, and a bold self-love statement!
Your journey begins with the power of your imagination! Start with a simple all-black ensemble and inexpensive accessories that help you reclaim your power, feminine energy, and joy! Put on inspiring music while you’re getting dressed every single day, and you’ll be amazed at the spiritual transformation you’ll experience. Spiritual healing begins with acknowledging that you need healing and daily practice of self-love and self-care.
When you can embrace glamour, you'll discover your resilience in a new light with each hairstyle, ensemble, or accouterment. Glamour is versatile! Embrace glamour in your bedroom and powder room. Use flowers and essential oils while taking a bath and enjoy a moment of solitude from the world. Spray perfume on your body before going to bed each night as a sign of respect for yourself. Create a sacred space in your bedroom that’s inviting and feminine. Don’t ignore your beautiful china set! Use it more than two times a year. Invite your friends to a virtual party to celebrate life on a Tuesday simply because you made it through another journey. This is glamour! Once you start to change your perspective on glamour and your self-worth, glamour will no longer feel like a selfish moment of vanity or narcissism. Glamour will be the catalyst to self-love. You will discover that you deserve happiness, and you have the right to love yourself. Glamour is a gateway to healing my darlings. Use your imagination, and you will see that the amount of abundant healing is endless.
